How to Install and Set up Office on an iPhone or iPad

One of the most impressive features of Office is the fact that it allows you to start your work practically anywhere. All you have to do is simply sign in with a free Microsoft account or an Office 365 account.

Even better, if you are subscribed to Office 365, you can even unlock some cool extra features. This guide will show you how to install and set up your Office applications on your iPhone or iPad.

A short note: If you use a MacBook or Mac, you will have to install the desktop version of Office instead.

How to set up Office on iOS platform

Step 1: Signing in

First, you need to sign in. Download any Office app, such as Word, from App Store. Then, tap on that app to launch it.

Then, sign in to your Microsoft account or Office 365 account.

If you don’t have a Microsoft or Office 365 account yet, then you could create one now using your email address. It will cost you absolutely nothing to do so.

Step 2: Upgrade to Office 365 or not

This step is only applicable if you are using a version that is associated with Office 2016 or Office 2019. You will be prompted to subscribe to Office 365. This step is purely optional and you can skip it by choosing maybe later.

If you want to purchase a plan, follow the instructions in the app. It is worth mentioning that by subscribing to Office 365, you will gain a lot of extra features that normal version doesn’t have.

Step 3: Improve Office experience or not

Microsoft Office will then ask you whether you would like to help them to improve Office experience. You can either choose yes or no, depending on your decision.

The system will also prompt you to select whether you want to receive notifications. Press turn on notifications to allow them, and press not now if you feel like you could do without them.

Step 4: Creating your first document

You’re now ready for your first document.

Tap on create and edit to start your work. When you have signed in to your Microsoft or Office 365 account on an Office app, all the other apps on the same device will automatically be signed in with the same account, so it isn’t necessary to do the sign-in step for all the other apps.

Step 5: Add other services

You can add other services, such as OneDrive or Dropbox, to your app by tapping Open and choosing to add a place. If you are using OneNote, tap Settings and choose Accounts instead.

Step 6: Choose your services.

All that is left now is to choose the services you want to add to the app. Enter the email address and password of those services, and you should be good to go now!

Having Office on your iPhone or iPad is a great way to bring your work with you if you’re on the go.

However, sometimes things don’t go well right away. When you set up your Office, you might have some questions or issues. Here’s a short troubleshooting guide for the most-asked questions:

Opening documents in an Office App

This one is actually quite simple. You only have to tap on the service where you save your files, and the files should be there. Note that the apps will only open the appropriate files, so if you are using Word, you can only open Word files.
